THRILLS AND SPILLS AT PEMBRIDGE.
The usual large crowd at Pembridge harness races saw plenty of thrills and unfortunately one spill on the six race card. It was a satisfying day for some of the unsung heroes of Wales & West, including the driver of the start car, Pete Lloyd. His headstrong gelding, No Problem thundered home by a neck in heat 1 of the Open Handicap with the likeable Glyn Slade-Jones, just foiling Max Factor and Pete Collins. The gorgeous roan, Blue Rajah (Ian Lloyd) looked every inch a champion as he sprinted negligently clear of JJ Jules in heat 2, but in the final, little Jules got her revenge. Dylan Lloyd-Jones, a pharmacist from Llanbister, climbed onto her sulky seat after rescuing a loose horse from the adjacent (luckily shallow) river, and the dogged mare flew from the throng like a bullet in the home straight to triumph by a length. Doubtless the video footage of the race will be somewhat shaky, as she is owned and trained by 'Cameraman Keith' Thomas, who deals with the photo-finishes. This was a double for Dylan, who had earlier scored with Delwyn Thomas' Cerion Ecology. Fearless Scoot, a half-brother to the celebrated Fearless JR, hinted that he could be another star in the firmament when making all the running with owner/trainer Libby Lloyd to take the maiden event on only his second appearance. Eighteen year-old Julian Price continued his purple patch when winning the other division with his mother's Tyson II. Henry Carroll's Paigewood enjoyed the tight track that caught out so many of his opponents, blazing home with David Bevan by a wide margin in the novice/improver race. Mark Pritchard was at the head of affair with Radnor Silvie turning for home in the improver/intermediate, when she slipped on the bend and bought down Billsgoldnandshake who was breathing down her neck. Cerion Again seized the initiative and emerged from the chaos to score for Alan Jones, a relatively new recruit. Next meeting: Sunday 2 p.m -Acorns Hospice Charity meeting at Hanley Swan.
