BUMPER CROWD AT LEOMINSTER LADIES DAY.
A near-record crowd enjoyed a golden day of racing under BHRC rules at the Leominster circuit for Ladies Day. Popular Kington butcher, Glyn Slade-Jones has impeccable manners, but his courtesy did not extend to letting the ladies precede him in the only Saddle Race of the season. His father's pacer, Sourbrook Stanley positively zoomed out of the gate with Glyn on board, and despite the rider claiming that he was conceding both weight and age, was never headed. Stanley and Glyn later showed their amazing versatility by sizzling clear by a wide margin to take the top grade Male Mile in the sulky. North Wales raider, Steve Lees was also in fine fettle, clocking up a treble with Thorneyside Scoot, Albert's Choice and Arthur Parsons' High Heel Kerry Boy, who took the Wales & West Points Championship Final by ¾ of a length from Max Factor and Pete Collins. However, Pete was consoled by the victory of his youngster, Proud Girl who took a division of the Improver in the talented hands of David Bevan. Davy Crockett has been a frustrating performer for Builth-based Lee Price this season, but he forgave all the hiccups when the six year-old sparkled in the sunlight for a 5 length success in the Intermediate. Dorian Davies' Cerion Again (Alan Jones) has provided his owner with a lot of pleasure this year, and compounded this by taking the Fun-Finder event, just ahead of JJ Kedo (Dylan Lloyd-Jones). Leading lady driver, Megan Taff completed a satisfying visit to Leominster, partnering a brace of winners trained by her husband Dave, Chesterfield winning his maiden for new owner, Mr Fisher and Gangster prevailing in the novice.
