The first race this week got the racing off to a great start with a good battle to the wire, Armageddon (Alec MacDonald) led from the gate but on the final turn Pacific Heights (Dougie MacKenzie) came with a good run closing him all the way to the wire but Armageddon held on to win in 2:09.5. (Wee note - anyone else notice that all the maiden class horses this week were all sired by the late Robin Red ?) The next race was the second win in two weeks for Nuala Goodman’s The Playboy, who won in 2:07.6 driven by William Drysdale. The third race saw a good finish with only a couple of lengths separating the first four, Johnny Thomson’s Riverside Rebecca managed to get part of a length clear going to the line for driver Hugh Menzies in a time of 2:10.2 with Valkyrie driven by Mark Kennedy just getting through before the wire to finish second. The fourth race saw the hard pulling Golden Haw Lea almost push the gate away at the start with owner/trainer Robert Wilson driving to win in a time of 2:07.4 from I’m A Swell who put in a good challenge going to the finish. The last race of the evening was a lucky catch drive for Dougie MacKenzie when he won with Mat Turner’s Touch Of Fame in a time of 2:05.4 in a hard fought battle to the line with Coalford Direct (William Drysdale). Touch Of Fames usual driver - Alec Turner was injured before racing when getting this mare ready for racing, but by all accounts he is on the mend.
