BEVAN FAMILY BENEFIT DAY AT ALLENSMORE

Fortune certainly smiled on the Bevan family for the Lions Charity harness racing meeting at Allensmore, taking four of the highly competitive seven races on the card.
Colin Bevan set the standard when Almedida J hurtled clear of the maiden field, giving Amman Valley commentator Dai Jenkins his first heady success as an owner/breeder. "Every winner is special," he smiled, "but when you've bred them too -it's a unique feeling, just like the kids doing well!"
Colin later clinched his special double by partnering his own fabulous Free Contender to a heart-pounding victory in the top grade handicap, clocking the fastest time of the day.
Colin's cousin David Bevan, who trains across the valley at Maesmynis, also added a double to his superlative accomplishments this season. Jason Tucker's eye-catching four year old, I Am Still The Man, blazed home by ten lengths to make it three impressive victories on the bounce and achieve Intermediate status. Half an hour later, David piloted Henry Carrol's Paigewood to a narrow win to graduate to the same grade.
Sourbrook Stanley, owned by Kington man Tom Jones, put his setbacks behind him to power home in the capable hands of his son, Glyn to take one division of the open handicap, while Scoots Zola hit form at last for Gareth Price to take the other.
Sara Mould had only managed an hour's sleep following a stint on the night-shift, but no-one would have guessed from the decisive manner in which she galvanised her father's Miss Bogart to dominate the novice/improver event, finally triumphing by 5 lengths from Leckwith Destiny (Les Saunders).
