NITE'N'GALE ON SONG IN ALLENSMORE SPECTACULAR.

The two-day 'Allensmore Experience' Classic Cup meeting staged by Hereford & Borders HRC provided an action-packed weekend for the sun-kissed spectators who travelled from all over the UK.
The feature race of the first day, the Hoofbeats Magnificent Mile Free For All was an epic battle between some of the fastest pacers on the circuits. Brenda Llewellin's courageous mare, Temptress faced a baptism of fire as she led out of the gate with Roy Wilson, having only recently converted to racing under BHRC rules. But she maintained the searing pace to just better her old adversary Nite'n'gale (Julian Price) and clock the fastest time of the meeting.
It only took Nite'n'gale twenty-four hours to gain breath-taking consolation and establish the nine year-old as a true hero. Largely due to the sympathetic brilliance of eighteen year old Julian on the sulky seat, the Price family lugged home a sackful of silverware to Presteigne and will never forget their first Allensmore Experience. Nite'n'gale sprinted off his forty yard trail to get within a length of the trail-blazing Kay's Boy (Pam Haythornthwaite) in his heat, while Colin Bevan and his rising star, Free Contender headed the other top grade heat.
The truly magnificent spectacle of eight top class horses warring for the £3,000 Final spoils was marred when Kay's Boy (Pam Haythornthwaite) and Scoots Messenger (David Bevan) fell at the halfway marker. The race was stopped, and the restart delayed. The re-run field may have been depleted due to the ruling that rightly bars fallers from participating, but it was an epic battle. Little Nite'n'gale tried with every fibre to just snatch victory by a couple of heartbeats from the beautiful Factory Bacardi (Roy Wilson) and the gallant Joe Hill (Peter Preston) who made so much of the running.
Blue Rajah's valiant victory with Ian Lloyd in the Lower Grade Final was another emotional occasion, and Walton-based owner-trainer Dilys Phillips dedicated the success to the memory of her late husband Ted who bred the dazzling roan.
Likeable Llanbister reinsman, Roy Wilson won the Talavary Trophy for the Leading driver of the meeting, while Colin Bevan and Sally Teeboon tied at the top of the trainers table.
