PETE COLLINS SWAPS HORSE POWE FOR HORSES IN SPECTACULAR STYLE.

The South Herefordshire Hunt harness racing meeting under BHRC rules at Allensmore was a busy day for the judges who had to pore over several photo finishes on the nine-race card.
It was a memorable day for Pandy-based man, Pete Collins. Having been National Autograss Champion in 1990, he has swapped horse-power for horses, and drove his first winner under BHRC rules when Max Factor made all the running in the first race. Within the hour, Pete was exulting in a double for his stable when his recent acquisition, Proud Girl, prevailed by a neck in the novice event with David Bevan. David, fresh from his successful Musselburgh raid was also in double form, blazing home with Vynwy George, who was recently a close runner-up in the National Pacing Derby.
Allensmore couple, Brian & Tracy Reynolds had reason to celebrate when their home-bred five year-old Copper Beech (Sara Mould) just thrust his nose out to win one of the maiden events, while start-car driver, Pete Lloyd was jubilant in the other division. His gelding, Sunset Dancer, powered out of the gate in the hands of the cheerful Glyn Slade-Jones and was never headed.
Lee Price and Major Current have looked a serious partnership this season and fulfilled that promise with a canny victory in the novice, but the judges were unable to separate Free Nukes (Gareth Bevan) and Cerion Ecology (Dylan Lloyd-Jones) who dead-heated in a highly competitive Improver.
Castle Rajah had a busy week, finishing 4th in Scotland, before sprinting clear of the Allensmore Intermediate field with Roy Wilson to qualify for open company.
The brave mare, Cassini Venture (Mark Pritchard) refused to be beaten in the mile handicap and took some notable scalps with her dogged late challenge. Another gutsy mare, Temptress, made her debut on the Wales & West circuits with Roy Wilson, and it looked as if it was going to be a winning one. But she had no answer to Julie Bevan and her father's handsome Free Contender who flew up the home-stretch so fast that the buzzing crowd expected a sonic boom.
